Description: Oral amylase, lipase, and protease is a combination product used to supplement for a deficiency or lack of digestive enzymes in various conditions such as cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, surgical removal of the pancreas, gastrointestinal surgery, and blockage along the digestive pathway. This combination of digestive enzymes help to break down starches, fats, and proteins. Ingredients: Directions and Warnings: Adults Under 60: 8,000-10,000 units taken by mouth with each meal and with snacks. Swallow quickly to minimize mouth irritation. The cystic fibrosis typical doses are 1,500-3,000 USP units of lipase per kg with each meal. Do not chew or crush capsules. TaPrecautions: Use microencapsulated products if possible. It will protect the enzymes from being degradated by stomach acid. Infants and Children: Do not use in infants under 6 months. Adults Over 60: Use with caution in this age group, as older patients are more likely to experience the drug s adverse reactions. Drug Dependency: This drug is not expected to cause physical or psychological dependence. Pregnancy Risk Category: C Pregnancy Warnings: There are no adequate studies of fetal harm in pregnant women. This drug should be used only if the benefits to the mother clearly outweigh the potential risks to the fetus. Nursing Mothers: Because of the risk of potential harm to the newborn, avoid using this drug while breastfeeding. If therapy is necessary, avoid breastfeeding while on this drug. Prolonged Use: No problems expected. Discontinuing Therapy: Do not discontinue without your physician s consent. Operating a Vehicle or Heavy Machinery: No problems expected.
